About Us

As Christians, we focus on Jesus’ command to love our neighbors as ourselves. We welcome the stranger. We support those in need. We work to bring God’s blessing to Northwest Alabama.

As Episcopalians, we work to bring God’s love to the whole world in partnership with the Anglican Communion. Our worship has deep roots in the ancient church. We also listen as the Spirit urges us to proclaim the Good News of God’s love in ways people can hear and feel in our day and age.

Who We Are

We exist to proclaim by word and deed the Good News of Jesus Christ. We strive to love our neighbors as ourselves and to respect the value and dignity of every human being.

Meet Our Priest-in-Charge

The Rev. Jake Andrews

The Rev. Jake Andrews was called to St. Bartholomew’s in August 2023. Jake is a graduate of the University of Alabama (B.A.), Beeson Divinity School (M.Div.), the University of Aberdeen, Scotland (M.Th. and Ph.D.), and the University of Iowa (M.F.A.). In 2019, Jake was ordained to the priesthood while serving as a professor at Whitworth University in Spokane, WA. He spent the first years of his ordained life as an assisting priest at St. John’s Cathedral, Spokane, WA, and, most recently, as the vicar of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, Spokane Valley. Gradually, he felt God’s persistent call to full-time ministry and is so happy to have been called to St. Bart’s and the Shoals, where he is also the Associate Rector of Trinity. Jake is married to Christina, and they have a son, Jonah.

    The Labyrinth: Fourth Saturdays, 5pm

This informal service and interactive service is meditative and about asking questions. We sing and hear words from scripture and reflect on them. Together, we explore what it means that God loves us.

The Feast of All Saints’ November 1, 6pm, every year

This joy-filled service draws from the entire history of the Christian faith. We use prayers from the first Book of Common Prayer. The entire service is set to music from the 16th century. While drawing from our specific Anglican history, the service hearkens back through the earliest Christianity to the religion of Israel. You will smell frankincense and hear bells. Together, we will celebrate the love God has for us as we offer our love back.

    Christmas Eve: December 24, 7pm

This meditative service features candlelight and songs of joy. Come join us as we contemplate the mystery of the incarnation.
